FAQ

1Should I have an X-ray done?
An X-ray is a primary diagnostic test carried out to check for orthopaedic conditions causing pain, instability or discomfort. If you have proof of X-rays done in the past, it's best to bring them along.
2What is the point of an MRI?
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) utilises a magnet to create detailed images of the bones, tendons, cartilage, ligaments, surrounding blood vessels, nerves and fat.
3Will my medical aid cover the cost of an X-ray?
A majority of medical aids cover basic radiology services. However, it is best to contact your provider to find out if they will cover the cost of these services.
4Should I consult my primary care doctor before any surgical procedure?
You can get a medical opinion from your primary care doctor, especially in the event of joint replacement surgery or if you suffer from an underlying medical condition.
5How long are orthopaedic procedures expected to take?
Depending on the patient's diagnosis and current health status, procedures are expected to last between 1-2 hours.
